1. DIY Etsy Digital Print Artwork (Under $10)
This is one of the easiest and most affordable DIY home decor ideas—and it’s perfect if you like to switch things up seasonally.
Why this works:
You can find thousands of digital prints online (especially on Etsy) for as little as $1–$5. From there, it’s all about how you style and finish them.
How to do it:
- Purchase digital prints online
- Print them at a local shop (choose matte, not glossy)
- Thrift frames from secondhand stores
- Apply a thin layer of matte Mod Podge over the print
That final step is key—it adds a soft texture and removes that “paper print” look so it feels more like real artwork.
Pro tip:
Instead of placing the print behind the glass, tuck the glass behind the print. It instantly elevates the look.
You can easily spend $30–$50 on a single piece of artwork—this method lets you create a full set for under $10.

2. DIY Textured Canvas Art with a Custom Wood Frame
If you love that high-end, minimalist artwork look, this project is for you.
What you’ll need:
- Canvas (HomeSense or similar)
- Joint compound or plaster
- Optional paint
- Wood for framing
- Wood stain
How it works:
Apply the compound directly to the canvas and build texture using a putty knife or brush. You can keep it minimal or go more abstract—there’s no right or wrong here.
Once dry, you can:
- Leave it natural
- Add paint
- Layer tones for depth
Finish it off with a simple DIY wood frame to give it that custom, high-end feel.
Why it’s worth it:
For under $40, you can create a statement piece that looks like something you’d find in a designer store.

3. DIY Aged Stone Vases (3 for Under $10)
These are one of my favorite DIY budget home decor projects because they’re so forgiving—and you probably already have most of the materials.
Two easy methods:
1. Baking soda + paint
- Mix baking soda into your paint
- Apply for a soft, subtle texture
2. Plaster/joint compound
- Apply directly to the vase for a heavier texture
Steps:
- Thrift inexpensive vases
- Prime and base coat
- Add texture (baking soda mix or plaster)
- Layer paint using a sponge or brush
- Lightly sand edges for a worn, aged look
Pro tip:
Seal with a final spray coat to smooth out air bubbles and protect the finish.
The best part? You can’t really mess this up. If you don’t like how it looks, just layer over it and keep going.

4. Thrifted Lamp Makeover (High-End Look for $20)
This is such an underrated DIY home decor idea.
High-end lamps can easily cost $200–$400—but you can achieve a similar look with a secondhand find and a little creativity.
What I did:
- Found a lamp base on Marketplace for $20
- Cleaned it thoroughly
- Used the same baking soda + paint technique as the vases
- Layered neutral tones with a sponge
For the lampshade, I used what I had and spray painted it as a temporary solution.
Why this works:
It’s a great way to use leftover paint and materials you already have at home.

5. DIY Fiber Wall Art (Macrame & Weaving)
If you want to add warmth and texture to your space, fiber art is such a beautiful option.
I actually started out creating macrame pieces, and they’re a big part of how I first built my platform.
Options to try:
- Simple macrame wall hangings
- Woven wall art
- A combination of both
There are so many tutorials online that can walk you through the basics, and once you get the hang of it, you can create large, custom pieces for a fraction of the cost of store-bought versions.
