I’m leaning towards renting a deck sander to sand my deck before staining as I want to give this the best chance of lasting!

So tell me, do you sand before staining? Is this step worth it?

I stained my front step last summer and the first shovel that went over it in the winter tore it apart 😩

Do you prefer oil based or water based stain? (I used water on my front step so now I’m leaning towards oil…)

Just water and a good pressure wash. No cleaner was used.

I think it’s been a long time since this deck had a good cleaning and it’s shocking how good the wood can look underneath.

Picking away at this as it’s taking time but so satisfying 😍
