This ensuite bathroom renovation was all about creating a space that feels brighter, more functional, and more intentional — without taking on a full gut job. If you’re looking for ensuite bathroom renovation ideas that are realistic and budget-conscious, this project is proof that small design decisions can completely change how a bathroom looks and functions.
By focusing on storage, layout, and wallpaper in the bathroom, we were able to achieve a transformation that feels custom and elevated while still working with existing tile and finishes.

layout and design
Before the renovation, the ensuite bathroom lacked storage and felt dated. The layout wasn’t being used efficiently, and the space didn’t feel cohesive or inviting.

The main goals for this ensuite bathroom renovation were:
- Improve bathroom vanity storage
- Keep the existing tile to avoid a major renovation
- Add warmth and visual interest with bathroom wallpaper
- Create a bright, cohesive ensuite bathroom design
- Achieve an inexpensive bathroom makeover with high impact
vanity and storage: ensuite bathroom renovation
One of the most important changes in this bathroom was replacing the vanity. We chose a bathroom vanity with storage that better fit the space and extended it fully to the wall, instantly improving both function and layout.
Adding proper bathroom vanity storage made a huge difference in how the space works day-to-day. Everything now has a place, which is especially important in an ensuite bathroom where storage is often limited.

To add even more storage, we installed a cabinet above the toilet. This simple addition dramatically increased storage without taking up valuable floor space — a great solution for a quick bathroom makeover.

diy painting bathroom tile
Instead of removing the tile, we designed around it. Tearing out tile can quickly turn a project into a major renovation, so we focused on enhancements that would complement what was already there.

A small strip of mismatched tile was painted to better blend with the existing tile, which helped the entire bathroom feel more cohesive. This is a great trick for a DIY bathroom makeover when you want big impact without big costs.
wallpaper in the bathroom ideas
This is one of my favorite wallpaper in the bathroom ideas, especially for smaller spaces. Wallpaper in a small bathroom can actually make the room feel more elevated and thoughtfully designed when done right. Many people opt to make an accent wall with wallpaper but I think it looks best bringing the wallpaper around the whole bathroom above the tile in this space.
We used wallpaper for the bathroom that’s designed to handle moisture, making it suitable for an ensuite.
We sampled several options, including some with blue tones, but ultimately chose a soft beige floral design. The pattern complements the existing tile and brass finishes without competing with them.

When choosing wallpaper in the bathroom, it’s important to consider:
- The undertones of your existing tile
- The scale of the pattern in a small space
- How it works with your vanity, mirror, and lighting
Wallpaper doesn’t need to be bold to be impactful. This subtle design adds warmth and character while keeping the space light and airy.
final styling: ensuite bathroom renovation
To complete the ensuite bathroom design, we replaced the mirror and light fixture with affordable options from Amazon. These updates modernized the space without stretching the budget.

Originally, my aunt disliked the bathroom floor, but once the new vanity, wallpaper, and rug were installed, it completely changed how the floor looked. It now adds contrast and depth rather than feeling dated.
To finish the space, we swapped out the blinds for a soft blue option that ties in with the adjacent bedroom. The blinds are from TWOPAGE and I have a discount code for you to save 26%! Use code MEGANDAUPHINEE HERE!
We also added a rug with subtle blue accents that helps connect the spaces and keeps the bathroom feeling bright and cohesive.

This ensuite bathroom renovation proves that wallpaper in the bathroom, thoughtful storage solutions, and smart design choices can result in a space that feels completely new — without a full remodel. This total renovation was just under $2,000 CAD!
If you’re looking for an inexpensive bathroom makeover or a quick bathroom makeover idea that still feels high-end, this project is a great example of how far intentional design can go.
