So you might be looking for fall decorating ideas as fall is approaching... Fall is one of my favorite times of year to cozy up my home. There’s something about the warm tones, earthy textures, and layered details that make a space feel instantly inviting.
In my last post, I shared my fall decor haul from Michaels and HomeSense, along with a few thrifted finds. Today, I’m excited to show you how I styled everything in my home and share some fall decorating tips and ideas you can use to bring the season inside.

Whether you’re looking for fall house decorating ideas, inspiration for decorating a table for fall, or just some simple updates that make a big impact, I hope this post sparks a few fresh ideas for your own space.

decorating your kitchen counters
One area I wanted to refresh was a little corner in my kitchen that always seemed to become a dumping ground for keys and clutter. So, I styled it with a thrifted vase I DIY’d for under $10, faux stems from Michaels, and a small decorative book.

Adding a textured vase and a wooden catch-all tray helped ground the space and make it feel intentional. This is a great way to decorate your kitchen counters.
This is one of my favorite fall decorating tips: even the smallest spots in your home can be elevated with just a few thoughtful pieces. Group decor in threes, vary textures, and mix natural tones for that cozy autumn feel.
Kitchen Shelves Styling

My kitchen floating shelves got a seasonal makeover, too. I started fresh with a blank slate and layered in different textures and heights: vintage bells, wooden pumpkins, amber glassware, cutting boards, and faux fall foliage. A mix of new and "old" decor pieces I had.

Mixing everyday items like cutting boards and bowls with seasonal decor keeps things practical while still adding a festive touch. This is a great fall decorating idea for kitchen shelves if you don’t want to buy too many “just-for-the-season” pieces, but still want your shelves to reflect the time of year.

When styling shelves, you want to ensure you are mixing different textures, shapes, and heights!
Decorating Dining table for Fall

In my dining room, I refreshed both the table and the surrounding accents. My olive tree got a more realistic look with a layer of moss in the pot. I added parchment paper so that the layer of moss had something to rest on.
Then, I swapped out the summer foliage on my dining table for autumn branches from Michaels and replaced the vase with one I had in my bedroom to give it a fresh new look. Next, I reused three candlesticks I already had there and added one of my little DIY vases.

Since styling this, I visited Urban Barn and found some lovely candles and candle holders, so I might swap out the candlesticks. Either way, the warm-toned candles and decor created a cozy setup perfect for the season.
I feel like something is missing to ground everything so I am on the lookout for a table runner or a tray to add to this space.
If you’re looking at decorating your dining table for fall, itl doesn’t have to be complicated—just layer in candles, branches, and a few textural pieces and you’ll instantly create a welcoming centerpiece.
fall decorating Living Room ideas

If you're looking for fall decorating living room ideas, my living room also got a fall refresh with a few seasonal accents. I added textured pumpkins from HomeSense, an olive green pillow, and a chunky off-white knit pillow for extra coziness.

On the coffee table, I styled stacked books, a vase with eucalyptus stems, a candle, and a candlestick for height. It’s simple, but it makes the space feel pulled together and seasonally inspired.

I also have an order of beautiful pillow covers coming from the Woven Nook that I cannot wait to add to this space!
Thrifted Frames & DIY Wall Art
I also love incorporating thrifted and DIY elements into my decorating. This year, I found a few vintage-style frames at Value Village and plan to add vintage landscape prints from Etsy. Stacking frames or leaning them on shelves is such a charming way to add warmth and personality.

Another project I’m excited about is a DIY textured wall art piece inspired by a $250 designer version I saw online. By using affordable textiles, a linen mat, and an IKEA frame, I’m creating my own version at a fraction of the cost. Unique art like this adds depth and character, and it’s a great example of how fall autumn decorating ideas don’t always have to mean pumpkins and leaves—they can also be about texture and warmth.
Final Thoughts on Fall Decorating Ideas for the Home

As you can see, refreshing your space for the season doesn’t have to mean a complete overhaul. With a few strategic swaps—like adding moss to a plant, changing out vases, styling shelves, or layering in cozy textures—you can give your home a fresh autumn feel.
Whether you’re drawn to earthy neutrals, vintage-inspired accents, or bold fall foliage, there are endless fall decorating ideas to play with. The key is to focus on warmth, layers, and thoughtful details that make your home feel welcoming.

I’ll continue tinkering with my decor as the season goes on (and I’ll share updates as new pieces arrive), but I hope these fall decorating tips give you inspiration for your own home.
